A cover with a gap at the bottom is a funnel, not a barrier. Seal the skirt with soil or sandbags, overlap panels by at least 10 cm, and fit a flap at the door rather than a slit. One honest limit: 14 mesh does not stop thrips — where thrips are endemic, step up to finer mesh and accept the heat penalty, or run 14 mesh in the warm months and switch when pressure builds.
